SPN month, day something

So after favorite angel day, it seems only fair to do favorite demon.

As attached as I am to Meg and Crowley, and appreciate the machinations of Lilith and the YED, the choice is clear: my fierce fearless homegirl RUBY.

Sorry, we thought there was a question?

Especially Ruby 2.0, but they both rule! So..I kind of can't do a whole thing on Ruby's narrative the way I tried to do for Anna, because I remain extremely disgruntled about how she went out, and that's always most frustrating with a character you like. But in the interests of positive reinvention of female characters even in sexist narratives, let's have at it.

What I find most fascinating about Ruby is how much of a thrill-seeker she was. I mean, she was, right? She became a demon because she played with fire as a human witch. Then she did something to piss off Tami. We don't know what it was, but I'm guessing it's not easy to be a stand-out troublemaker among demons. After which she threw in with Lilith, and was enough of a badass with enough screws loose to get the deep-cover Winchester posting.

Wait, forget the backstory, she knowingly got involved with the Winchesters, which is basically prima facie evidence of grade-A crazy. Specifically, her twisted affection for Sam, while still totally abusive and I am not excusing it, don't get me wrong, seems to me quite genuine. She has that jones for the high of human emotion and connection, as intense a motivator as Sam's thirst for blood and power. That relationship cuts as sharply as it does because it's so not an act from either end.

So I really do believe she is different - in particular, less sadistic - than other demons. I think she could keep some (slight, warped, but still) hold on her humanity because she took so naturally to the chaos and physicality of demon existence, rather than being destroyed by it.

ugh! she's my girl! WHYYYYYY.

(I know it was the most futile of wishes, but I can't have been the only one who kind of hoped H&H was going to end up with Anna and Ruby coming to their senses and ditching those two train wrecks? Preferably for each other after a huge dramatic drunken blowout?)

serial killers fan club: come at me, supernatural, god doesn't want you! but i still do., awesome ladies
