yeah, I did not care for the forced Rose monologue. go away.

Or, if she ever does get out of Mystic Falls or fall for someone else, they can use their ~shared heartbreak to strengthen their bond. I'm not defending the way they're emotionally entangling her in their whole fucked-up thing, or even the way they put so much of their shit on each other even indirectly, but I think it's extremely believable for both of them.

This.

I cracked up during the whole talk about expectations! It's damn near word-for-word what we've been saying all this time. And he can't let himself be seen trying to be good for its own sake or his own sake, obviously, but he's going to do it! He's going to be AWESOME! Because FUCK YOU, MOTHERFUCKER!

LMFAO RIGHT? I died.

I like that Stefan's trying to deal with his issues, and I very much like the pro-free-will sentiment behind it. But that's not the mirror-talk it's supposed to be, because RIC IS BEING FUCKING RING-ROOFIED.thank you. I did find the Ric-Stefan interactions interesting, but that's been ( ... )

Yeah. I thought the Ric-Stefan scenes were pretty on-point for Stefan but it was depending on parallels that were not there, so it was kind of jarring.

ripped out of the afterlife so she could be the obvious authorial voice on the love triangle which is the least interesting thing about the main characters? come ooooon.

Yeeaaaaaah....

And where IS Katherine? She would definitely have a vested interest in finding out which Original sired the line.

You'd think if anyone would know, it would be Katherine, right? Maybe they're holding off on Kat references so we get a surprise Dramatic Reappearance. I'm hoping, anyway, cause I miss my girl.

I came here first for ep reviews because I just knew you'd have things to say about Tyler. I would like all the Tyler discussions all the time.
I'm really concerned he's going to bite it, when he's worked so hard to escape the godawful cycle he's stuck in.This exactly. I worry about him. I hope he's consistently in the rest of this season's eps so we can see his story play out a bit better. He's trying so hard, but. Boy's still got a lot to deal with ( ... )

TYLER. His hopeful little face where he's talking to Caroline, and all proud of himself for having faced his demons at such great hardship. He really thinks he's going to make it out for a second! And then his face when Caroline has to burst his bubble. Disappointment, but also resignation, like he never really expected things to get better for him.

This exactly. I worry about him. I hope he's consistently in the rest of this season's eps so we can see his story play out a bit better. He's trying so hard, but. Boy's still got a lot to deal with.

Agreed! And I just can't deal with the idea that the only way out is death. Sometimes I can, but not for the abused-kid-grows-up storyline.

It's just bizarre that nobody's even tried to get Katherine? She'd be my first call, in this situation.

I wish I could be objective enough to criticize the episode on all its issues, but, just...helpless to the D/E. I am not evolved. Alas.

I definitely could have used more Rose. I was super happy to see her, but there was very little of actual Rose we got to see. I was also secretly hoping that Damon would confess to her his feelings of accountability for her death, because they always had an honest relationship, and that could have been good stuff. Oh well.

Maybe they don't have Katherine's number. She seems very much the "don't call us, we'll call you" type.

Because then "doing it right" and "getting Elena's love" become mixed up, and if they do fuck up, they can make it about insufficient love from Elena, and that's something they can blame on each other. Or, if she ever does get out of Mystic Falls or fall for someone else, they can use their ~shared heartbreak to strengthen their bond.I love this. I love the whole idea that both of them being in love with Elena unites them rather than dividing them. Salvatores forever, ( ... )

That's fair! I feel like all the thought and work in this episode went toward the D/E scenes. I'd probably be a lot more forgiving if it were my ship.

I love this, but I still worry that the show somehow supports his conviction that he's doing this for Elena. It's still playing too much into the S/E side of things and not enough into the elusive Stefan arc.

That's legit. This show is much better for me if the author is dead. I don't ever pay attention to the love triangles as more than a convenient way to showcase everyone's psychological issues, which I think is the only way a show about love triangles can be interesting for this long (or, at all).

I'm actually...not that worried about Tyler? Because he's so the obvious death of the season that I think they might try to shock us (as they do) and go for someone else.

I hope you are right!
