She's easily one of the most hated on women in the 'verse. I just never understood what was to dislike. I can understand not liking her arc -- specifically the Gunn/Fred/Wes triangle -- but it always surprises me how much animosity is thrown her way. After reading this essay, I think she's better developed than Oz, yet she's the target of a lot of ranting.
right? Honestly my eyes glaze over when I see Fred-bashing or -erasing (which is worse in a lot of ways, IMO) so I'm just venturing a guess. And obviously it's not about any individual taste for or against the character, because I want people to like what they like, obviously. But I feel like she (totally unfairly) becomes the target of a lot of (totally justified) frustration over AtS's Lady Issues, because her story is just riddled with them. I think maybe not everyone draws the distinction on that where I would. So I ignore it, LALALA!
That Fred essay--word so hard. Changed my life. Or my view of Fred, anyway.
I don't recommend the comments like I normally do, because some threads start to feel like conversations about tagging "MAN PAIN!!!" onto dislike of characters and not caring about their problems, which I think is an inappropriate use of feminism as justification for fandom opinions.
lol, preach. Actually I would like someone to write an essay about THAT. *throws that idea out there*
I think Lee's depressive spiral became where I got interested enough in him to eventually relate to and love him like I do now which is a lot because I clearly have gross emotional problems. Whatever, THIS JUST IN.
Yeah. And I mean, it's one of those things where the pattern bugs me more than any group of instances of it? I know my (rare but intense) character distaste, when it happens, does include feminist criticism of them, because it's how I see the world. And there's value to voicing frustration about that, and then it turns into I KNOW IT WHEN I SEE IT! which is pretty unhelpful. But it adds up to frustration. Like, polemic yelling about XYZ fandom opinions does not give anyone Feminist Extra-Credit. (Then again, I also don't have an issue saying I just don't like something and maybe explaining why rather than justifying, so maybe that's easier for me to say.)

And can I just say, I love that you love Hilary Clinton. She's so awesome, and the people around me in meatspace love to hate on her.

Love all your favourite scenes.
Obviously I would have to have massive Freudian issues to ship them. So I don't. Mostly.
S'alright, I will ship them on your behalf (yum).
I am so stealing that rainbow spew gif.
