What a fucking disappointment.

end of line

I actually do not post all my crackpot theories here, sometimes because they sound too ridiculous and sometimes they sound too obvious.  This ending?  Too obvious until Revelations; too ridiculous now.  So, I guess I never saw it coming?  Whatever.  This might or might not be my least favorite finale, ( Read more... )

bsg: lee adama why are you like this, wtf, bsg, bsg: laura roslin is my favorite, episode reviews

Yeah, I probably won't cheer you up on this one. I pretty much agree with all of this, with the one caveat that I did like Baltar and Caprica's scene on New Earth Which Has The Same Constellations As Old Earth What A Coincidence!!!! Yes, implying that Baltar was only a scientist because he was running away from farming chafes, but being a president/promiscuous lout/pretentious asshole/etc. because he was running away from his father does kind of work. "I know quite a bit about farming." Oh man. Basically all of the Baltar/Caprica material works for me, though NOT the final walk through the park at the end. HOW ARE YOU GOING TO TREAT YOUR JAPONESE ROBOT DOGS, AUDIENCE? MAYBE THEY WILL RISE UP AND KILL YOU!1!1 ( ... )

RIGHT??!!??! RIGHT??!?!?! IN A WORLD GONE MAD, WE WILL NOT SPANK THE MONKEY ROBOT, THE MONKEY ROBOT WILL SPANK US!!!!

YES JUST YES on the Tyrol and Tigh thing. Just, what the fuck? Tigh has done nothing to show he ever deserves the moral high ground, ever, the idea that I'm supposed to take his word on that is just appalling. And I just kept trying to resolve my picture of Tyrol as someone who had genuine compassion for others, who tried to pass up a chance to hit Bill Adama in the face I personally would purchase tickets for the pleasure, who genuinely loved others, with someone who could do what he did.

I know this makes me sound like a monster, but I just felt completely unmoved by the Adama/Roslin "Remember when we wanted to have a cabin? I'll build one and think of you!" stuff. It just pushed too hard.

ME TOO. And I loved that pairing from the very beginning but this was like...I wouldn't care about Laura unless Bill was crying? I WILL SAY THIS FOR THE WRITERS, Bill was consistent with his character development in this ( ... )

YES EXACTLY. And you're absolutely right about Tyrol refusing to punch Bill in the face. It's like, there's no reason for Tyrol to have been this dead to me. I talked to somebody the day after the finale who loved Tyrol strangling Tory and it just made me fume so much.

The Plan: There are about two moments of absolute top-flight Jane humour. The entire 90 minutes were really worth it for them. The rest...I think there's probably something interesting there, but it makes it very hard to care.

Aside from Head Baltar and Head Six, this is bad on every level. Wrecks the mythology of the show, doesn't make sense tactically, isn't even a good episode, FRIDGES MY LAURA (making her death about the BILL PAIN is fridging), completely destroys all of the character development of Kara, Lee, Tyrol, Tigh, and Ellen...what made anyone think to do this?

A+++ for the cast forever for trying to salvage something worthwhile out of this mess, all the good things I have ever said about them have clearly not been anywhere near adequate, but yeah. I hope the show isn't ruined forever for me.

haha. I would not have been able to resist, eventually. But I almost wish I had held off for some time done a favorite episode re-watch first, you know, WHILE I COULD STILL GIVE A FUCK. I didn't even so much care about it holding together logically so much, because I've just been going with it all this time anyway, but I wanted resolution for the characters, and I wanted them to be the characters I was so interested in.

But the stuff she said about politics tracks from who Roslin was in the miniseries--telling Lee about not ever being interested in politics after she became president.

That line even on first watch struck me as someone who didn't quite believe she had the capacity to take hold of this kind of power, you know? She was just too sharp at it to have actually not been interested. Which would fit with her, I think.

not only is Tyrol dead!to!me but so is Aaron Douglas who said at a con that snapping Tory's neck was the coolest thing he got to do on the show.DEAD TO ME FOREVER. I'M GOING TO GET AN ON NOTICE BOARD, ( ... )

Ugh, Bill just running away from everyone. Even though he clearly didn't care about Lee, him choosing to leave Tigh? And Tigh leaving him alone to wallow in grief until he died? No.

in RDM's discussion of his writing of the finale - he mentioned something about remembering the characters and "returning" to them

MAKING MY BEST ROSLIN BITCH PLEASE FACE. WHAT THE FUCK?

And thank you for the recs, not spamming at all! I'm knee-deep in that Laura-and-Lee rec already.

Personally, I at times (it depends on my mood and the way fanon/canon cycles in my strange mind) chain EJO to his words at con regarding what Bill does later, and he does get himself off and find the others and have adventures with them, and maybe finally get around to having a relationship with Lee. >>" Maybe. Tigh was definitely mentioned though, I think. As well as drinking, maybe.

In a way, I think he was referring to the flashbacks, but now that you pointed out in your review the crumbling of several character arcs... I can see a worse interpretation for his thinking. *sigh*

LOL! I honestly do hope you like them. :) And that it offers a BIT of comfort at least.

All your What The Fuck is correct.

Though, it cannot be said enough, HEAD GAIUS AND HEAD SIX FLAIL FLAIL AAAAAAAAAAAAAAH.  “You see them, too?”
The saving grace of the finale. Insane OTP, forever and ever amen, etc.

Because if it wasn’t up to her then Starbuck - Starbuck! - has been stripped of her agency all this time, at least since she died.  And if she is choosing to move on, what, she can just leave Lee like that?
I get the impression she has no choice. What's fucking weird is she sounds OKAY with that. It's just. IDGI. That should be a TRAGIC scene. Instead it's like, this zen non-goodbye. What now.

This is just total destruction of all his character developmentPretty much. I don't even know what to do with it. I just WTF loudly at the writers and strike it from my personal Lee canon. It just makes NO FUCKING SENSE ( ... )

There's just no interpretation of that scene that doesn't make me angry.

I can't get over how disappointed I am in the Lee situation. I HAVE HAD KIND OF A ROCKY ROAD WITH THIS KID. So for it to end on such a bad note just when I was really getting positive about him takes away a lot of my enjoyment. And also, you know, I was identifying with him so strongly, so to see him just randomly revert to where he was five years ago, I kind of took it hard, like STOP TRYING TO BE A BETTER PERSON, IT WILL NEVER WORK.

HAHAHA I actually said "DO YOU EVEN GO HERE???" out loud when watching the ep

HAHAHA BRAIN TWINS. THERE ARE AT LEAST TWO COPIES.

omg the title on that Lee video is very promising. oh lee SO HANDSOME SO AWKWARD. HOW DO YOU SOLVE A PROBLEM LIKE APOLLO?

I like to think that Lee does not descend into a neverending spiral of despair and that he actually goes on and is marginally happy, even though I have no idea how he could be after losing Bill, Laura, and Kara.

How, though? How? what does he even have left besides the FUCKING PIGEONS? I suppose I can be grateful we at least cut away before he killed himself.
