So, up until about three weeks ago, I worked full-time for The Bookstore. You know the one. As most of you gathered, though I didn't frequently state it outright, I worked for the big, hulking, corporate Bookstore. And while my first two and a half years there were annoying but not awful, the last six months were hellish and I'm happy to see the ( Read more... )

Blame dremiel.

I was trying to slough off my obsession not make you melancholic and obsessed!

As a fellow former employee of The Bookstore I can only say that I feel your pain. And that I think letting it go is a very healthy decision. I will now relay an amusing anecdote (no guarantee, mind) from my days with The Bookstore: a few months after they bought our scrappy indy bookstore chain and laid off a bunch of folks from the buying staff and morale was in the basement I made some copies only to find that someone had left resume paper in the main paper drawer of the copier (this was back in 1991 or so, resumes were on paper!) and the interesting thing is not that it was weird or gasp-worthy, the interesting thing was that my only thought was "Hey, this is a nice weight; I wonder where they got it?"

i had two day shipping on amazon and got mockingjay pretty quickly, but generally when i preorder through them and do regular shipping, it begins the shipping process a day or two before release (so i can't cancel the order if i find the book early in a store) and then takes over a week to arrive. so now i just go to an actual store on release day, because this crap drives me crazy. why would i preorder a book if i don't want it immediately?! (and i only preordered mockingjay because all three were so cheap and i didn't own any of them yet. at least my shelf looks happy now?)
