Who: Dean, Kaylee, Garak, and Doc Nine Where: Garage When: Following this PM on the network What: Dean and Kaylee clean up the mess from the fire fight, company turns up.
After getting Dean's PM, Kaylee decked herself out in her scavanging best. Coveralls, heavy boots, thick leather gloves in her back pocket and her hair tied back off her face. Practically skipping down to the garage, she realized she was more excited about sifting through the wreakage, than she had been about anything in quite some time.
"MARCO!" she called when she didn't see Dean anywhere between the cars.
Dean nodded as he glanced around at the wreckage. "Well, I'm not sure how many whole engines we're going to get. The ray gun that did blew through the block of most of them...I think the heat alone was what blew out the tires too."
His charming smile started to wilt a little at the thought. "It's a good thing..." He said, "No one got killed."
Meaning that there had been the awfully scary chance that had Dukat not been pissed enough at this Sisko guy, he'd have a whole right through his chest...or nothing at all.
"The hotel's got a sick sense of humor." Dean added.
Kaylee reached out and gave the outside of Dean's wrist a gentle squeeze, agreeing with him whole heartedly.
"It's nice to meet you Garak," she said with a friendly smile. "We ain't ever had a tailor here before that I know of. It's always shiny to know folks with useful occupations."
"And I'm glad to hear that if you're goin' to keep livin' down here, you're at least makin' it more comfortable," she said the doctor.
"Maybe." the Doctor replied to Garak, suddenly realising that he hadn't got any way of accessing the network now he'd moved out of his room. "I could send him a message, but I'd have to use someone else's connection to do it- it's the other Doctor I'd have to get in touch with." He smiled at the comment about needing a project, he had to agree with that (probably why he'd started it in the first place). Turlough had helped him get the basics started, now it was time to up the anti a bit.
Dean mentioning a ray gun caught his attention. "A very good thing," he agreed, fatalities were never good, he'd seen far too many of them one way and another.
"Oh yes," he said, grinning back at Kaylee. "Might even find the space for a hammock." Raising his eyebrows, he gave Garak a speculative glance.
"Ray gun," Garak said, not having to feign his concern even if he had no intention of being completely forthcoming with the reason for it. "Oh my, are you saying...you were here when this happened? Fortunate indeed that no one was killed," he added, eyes wide. It was disconcerting to hear the man speak about the hotel itself as though it were some sort of anthropomorphized entity. He wondered if captivity had made Dean not entirely stable
( ... )
He felt Kaylee's slender fingers on his wrist and Dean welcomed the contact, though made no effort to show it. There were boundaries to be respected.
Dean shot Garak a cautious look. "Yeah. I was the one getting shot at." He added, "Maybe you'll know him. Gul Dukat." The hunter emphasized the title, having had enough of those thrown into his face by Supreme commanders and such since coming here that he really could care less what rank some of the tenants came with.
"Same species, got the neck and ridges." He gestured to his own face and throat for indication. "Cardassian. You don't happen to have a grudge against a guy named Sisko too do you?"
"I'll be sure to keep that in mind," she said in response to Garak's offer. "I can do the basics, since it's kinda required when ya'll live on a ship with only a handful of people," she added absently picking at the teddy bear patch she had sewn on her pants long ago, "but I'll always be more comfortable with a blow torch than a needle."
Kaylee was curious for Garak's answer to if he was aquainted with the other Cardassian. There was plenty of other humans in the hotel that she didn't know, so it wasn't fair to assume, just because they were from the same planet. But knowing the way the hotel seemed to work, the odds were fair that they might know each other.
The Doctor smiled his thanks when Garak offered the use of his computer to contact his sort of future self, his idea for the hammock sounded very good too (if a little ambitious) but then again, Kaylee seemed to be rather good at that type of thing. "Might need someone who's good with a blow torch," he said, giving her a hopeful look.
Garak's very blue eyes flickered slightly when he heard all that Dean had to say. If the Dukat here had a grudge against Sisko...then why was he calling himself "Gul"? Probably for the same reason you're not introducing yourself as "Ambassador", he thought dryly, answering his own internal question. Keeping a low profile with the captors. "I don't think there's a Cardassian alive who doesn't know who Gul Dukat is," he said quietly, and there were far fewer Cardassians alive now than there had been thanks to him. "You're a very fortunate man." His voice hardened. "He has killed billions." Yes, billions with a "b". His expression says as much. "You'd do well to stay away from him. All of you." He then shook his head. "No, I've got nothing against Captain Sisko. He's a decent man. How do you know of him?" They may have had their differences in the past, but none of that mattered now
( ... )
Dean's demeanor altered just slightly, slipping from his neutral face just the littlest bit to reveal actual surprise and possibly a little horror at the revelation of Dukat's history. The hunter resisted taking a step back from Garak, holding his ground though in the face of the admission.
"The Hotel or whatever runs it causes people to have hallucinations." Dean said, levelly. "Dukat thought I was this Sisko guy and blew the hell out of the garage trying to kill him-me." He straightened his shoulders slightly. "He hated the guy enough to kill him with his own two hands...or I'd have a hole in my chest like half these engines here."
Dean met Garak's eyes and stared at him. "What did Sisiko do to piss him off besides breathing?"
"MARCO!" she called when she didn't see Dean anywhere between the cars.
