Owen leaned back in his chair and groaned, damn! He'd got roped in for naked bloody rugby, he'd kept clear of it for this long and then got lumbered. He sighed, oh well, he suppose he owed Jack, after all he had offered to talk to Kaylee so he could keep out of her way for a bit.

He still wasn't entirely convinced, okay the Hotel was capable of a lot of things that shouldn't be possible, but even so, the suggestion that they could remove specific memories that precisely just didn't seem possible. Maybe it was some kind of mass hallucination that the Hotel had triggered. the only problem with that theory, was why the hell would it bother?

Someone knocking urgently on his door broke his train of thought and he got up and went to open it. "Yeah, okay. Coming"

The door opened and there he was. Standing just a few feet in front of her looking no worse for wear for having disappeared for what felt like months.

"Owen," she breathed almost soundlessly, looking at him like he was an oasis in the desert.

She had told herself she was going to be cautious and see how he reacted to seeing her first, but once he was in front of her, all those thoughts just flew right out the window. Closing the space between them, she threw herself into his arms, burying her face in the crook of his neck, just breathing him in, convincing herself that he was really there. She couldn't help herself, she just missed him so gorram much.

Owen gave her a wary smile when she said his name, automatically looking towards Jack's door, in the vague hope that help could be at hand. Before he had the chance to ask if she had spoken to Jack, she was nuzzling his neck.

"Erm," was the only word he uttered, then instinctively moving his arms apart (or he would have if the door hadn't been in the way), finally managing "Kaylee."

Kaylee's stomach sank when she felt how stiff he was against her. Taking a step back she looked Owen in the eye, not seeing any of the love she hadn't realized she had been so accustomed to seeing. She would have even taken recognition beyond a casual acquaintance right now, but no, she was looking at the man she loved and a strangers eyes were looking back at her.

"Wuh de tyen ah," she gasped a hand flying up to cover her mouth. "Jack wasn't wrong. You really don't remember me."

She made it into the hall before she completely broke down. She didn't know where to go or what to do, the one person she really wanted was the one she just left behind. She wasn't even sure if she could get herself upstairs, but she couldn't really collapse in the hall in front of his door either.

With great big heaving sobs she stumbled across the hall to Jack's door, having to double check the room number twice, her eyesight so blurry through the tears. Hoping he was home she knocked trying not to hyperventilate.

Jack was just pulling on a t-shirt when the knock came, his braces hanging down the legs of his trousers and his feet bare as he had just finished taking a shower. He ran his hand through damp hair before pulling open the door.

Kaylee. She must have talked to Owen to look like that.

"Come on," he told her, pulling her inside, kicking the door shut as he wrapped his arms around her and just let her cry.

Kaylee collapsed into Jack's arms, really just needing someone to hold her as she let it all out. She wasn't sure how long she sobbed before she calmed down enough to be able to speak.

"He really doesn't know me," she said through her tears. "I couldn't even be in there with him looking at me like he didn't know me. He really forgot me."

"I know," Jack said. "I'm sorry. I'm trying to figure out why, but you know what it's like trying to figure out anything in this place."

Jack nodded sympathetically, though he was a little moved by the conviction in her voice when she talked about Owen's feelings.

"Kaylee, if you need me, you come and find me. Any time, day or night. I'm usually here or next door," he said with a nod towards 107.

"Thanks Jack, I'll keep that in mind," she said, having no intention of finding herself in the first floor hallway any time soon. She gave Jack a sad smile before letting herself out, the door clicking shut softly behind her.

Jack watched her go, then sat down on the edge of his bed. He hoped he could figure out what was wrong with Owen soon, if not for Owen then for Kaylee.
