Kaylee didn't want to eat alone, but she didn't see much choice otherwise. She still hadn't spoken to Owen, and she felt bad dragging Xander out at this hour just to keep her company, even though he had been more then supportive the past few days. Rounding the corner and entering the café, she brightened slightly to see someone already there.

"Nihao," she greeted with a little wave. "Hi," she said again in English. "I'm Kaylee, do you mind if I join you?"

Veronica looked up and saw a friendly looking young woman standing by her table. It took her a moment to recognize the foreign word as Chinese.

"Not at all," she answered, gesturing at the seat across from her. "Feel free to sit and join me in my late night shenanigans. Name's Veronica."

"Thanks," Kaylee said brightly sitting across from the girl who appeared to be about her age. "Hi, Veronica, I'm Kaylee," she introduced herself in turn, wondering if this was perhaps Xander's Veroinca that he had told her about. "Have you been here long?" she asked since they had yet to meet.

"Nice to meet you, Kaylee," Veronica replied. And, contrary to popular belief, today's my first day here." Just then, a waiter appeared and deposited her food on the table. Taking a bite of her sandwich, she was surprised to find that this was one of the best chicken salad sandwiches she'd ever had.

"What about you? How long have you been here?' Veronica asked, genuinely curious. She wondered if there was a cycle that the hotel used in order to cycle people, and if she was here because of a glitch in that cycle.

"Well," Kaylee said thoughtfully doing a mental rundown of the hotel's main attractions, "there is the bar, which seems to be a popular spot. And the movie theater, and the library, and the games rooms, and the gym," she ticced off on her fingers. "I'm a big fan of the garage since my workshop is down there, and I know some folks find the attic interestin'," she added, trying to think if she was missing something. "There seems to be something for everyone, and new rooms have been known to show up from time to time."

"Interesting," Veronica commented. "Maybe there is a Santa Claus, and I can finally get that pony I've always wanted." It was doubtful, but she needed to have some sense of normalcy, and if that meant joking about a pony, then that's what she would do. She already knew that there was no Santa or Easter Bunny.

"What type of work do you do down in the garage?" she asked.

"I've always wanted a pony of my very own," Kaylee agreed with a giggle.

"I'm buildin' a hoverskiff," she explained taking a sip of her drink. "It gives me somethin' to do most days. The engine is just about done, which was a real challenge since I didn't have a lot of the right parts, so I had to manufacture them myself. But now I'm gettin' started on the body work."

"You'll have to show me that some time," Veronica said, playing with the remains of her sandwich. "At least you have something to keep yourself occupied. Right now, it's just me, myself, and my trusty Backup. And somehow, I doubt that the people here are going to need my unique brand of services."
