I haz caterpillars!!!
The luna moth eggs hatched a few days ago! These are some that the moth laid on the side of my house, and they happened to hatch while I was at home. I even managed to get a
video of a caterpillar emerging from its egg Most of the caterpillars I spread around on my two walnut trees, but I'm keeping a few for the daycamp kids at the nature center to grow :D
Momma opossum was released last week with her six babies, so the possum count is down by seven, and up by...uh...I've lost track, lol, but more than seven. Current total opossums = 45 (42 of them are the size of mice/small rats, so it's not quite as crazy as it sounds >_>)
The Smidge is hanging in there - she had a rough patch where her digestive system pretty much shut down for awhile, not unusual for these super-teenies that come in in bad shape, but she seems to be on the upswing. She's gone from 8 grams to 16 grams, and stuff is going in and coming out pretty much like it's supposed to - no promises, but looks like she just might make it ^^
Here's a video of her feeding from a tube, back when she first arrived And here she is now, a bit more fur and even a teeny bit of eyeball starting to peek out - eee! Eyeball!
Yo! Where's the milk?!
And she's also acquired three slightly older siblings to squirm around with. They came in at nearly 20 grams and in good shape, so they should do just fine.
