I've been having professional development at my new school for the past two weeks, and I love it. The staff and sense of community is tremendous. As someone new, I’ve felt so welcomed these past few days: teachers have come up and introduced themselves to me, several have checked in to ask how I’m feeling about all the new stuff, many have ( Read more... )

That's definitely good to know. I think it's even harder for me than for my other friends because I never studied abroad, and this is literally the first time I'm away all on my own.

i am glad you are feelnig this way. i didn;t study abroad either. and i am sure i will feel the same way in about two weeks. in fact, if eel the same way, and i havent even really left yet.

Mmm, I think you're right. A lot of my friends had their tough transitions when they were abroad or starting college...and I guess this is mine. I'm okay with that, but I just hope it gets easier.

Wow, I feel like we're in such a similar stage of life except I left rez a year ago. I still got to see friends most days in school last year though. And now I'm about to teach and I am scared after not being in a position of authority for five months. I have to get back into that mindset.
You do get used to traveling to see friends though. In a big city you might meet somewhere more often and go to their place less. Being able to sleep over on the weekend helps though. But I haven't yet had to make time to see friends while working full time. I had lots of time to bike around in June to get to friends' places when I worked part time so we'll see how things go in September.
