I've been having professional development at my new school for the past two weeks, and I love it. The staff and sense of community is tremendous. Waking up from teaching is like waking up the day after a really intense workout: muscles that you didn't even know you had are sore. The small feats of interpersonal communication that your brain lazily processes are suddenly revved up to on-crack levels.

TFA accidentally hired a 12 year old boy to teach high school.
Though the all-day announcements at my summer school are kind of annoying, it makes my hour when the principal gets on to “remind young ladies, you are not on Jersey Shore” and, even better, to “remind the young men to please cover up your private parts.”
(Every time he says “private parts,” I giggle to myself.) -
Good newses
1. My mom is going to be okay! We found out that the mass was just an overgrown gland or something-- it needs to be treated, maybe with radiation or surgery, but it's a quick one time thing, and will hopefully be fine. Today, I cashed in on my Borders gift card from the lovely Islamic studies department as a graduation gift, and can’t be more thrilled about my purchases. Mary Roach, Stephen Fry, and crossword puzzles, oh my!

OMG I just killed 12 episodes of Lost with my sister in the past two days, and it's SO GOOD. SO GOOD! I really hope I stay unspoiled for the duration of my watching. -
Congratulations! It's a thesis!
The 24 hours between Sunday afternoon and Monday afternoon were the most miserable of life, but at the end, I birthed a thesis. It's 70 pages, about 1 inch thick, and I didn't really bother with how many fingers and toes while I was shoving it towards the department administrative assistance (who was glaring at me because I turned it in a few hours ( Read more... ) -
