A great example of absolutely great jazz fusion by the two brothers, Gino and Joe Vannelli. From one of his very best albums, Powerful People, released in 1974. It used to get a LOT of requests for tracks off this LP from nightclub disk jockeys. Vannelli's music went over very big with the disco crowd, too ( Read more... )

Yes, for music purists the genres are best separate, yet so many have tried to do mash up fusion and avante gard experimental and sometimes that stuff goes sideways. gino is not standard jazz, he is more like smooth jazz or glam rock, the new wave pop of the 90s.

There were many foolish attempts at marrying the genres in music, miles davis with prince, for instance, that was in the 90s

another was albert manglesdorff wild goose with shirley hart was like folk music and avante gard jazz.
