"Gosh, it's so hot in here, the green house effect must've gotten worse these days," David incoherent thought made a smile crept on Pierre's face. They were at David's apartment on a midst of a summer's weekend, sitting on the living room couch, talking about some random stuff.

It was two months after David's first surgery and a week before the second one. David's condition was making a significant progress. The doctor almost sure that David would fully recover after the third surgery. All in all, things were just getting better and better for him.

Reaching out for a glass of water on the table, David drank the whole glass on a speed record. Pierre's smile turned into a giggle as David missed some of the water, which ran down on his chin.

Pierre moved closer and then wiped David's chin gently with his thumb. The smooth skin of David's chin attracted Pierre to kiss him at that very moment as the innocent look of David added the temptation. The next second, Pierre couldn't help himself as he leaned forward and placed his lips on David's, putting a feather light kiss before he deepened the kiss as David let Pierre's tongue lashed into his mouth.

They parted little by little to catch some air to breathe. David caught up in stillness for awhile, somehow blushing, couldn't believe what they just did a moment ago.

"I love you, Dave," Pierre mumbled in a low tone just enough for David to hear him.

No response.

"I said I love you," Pierre reiterated his sentence, hoping that David would say something as a response.

"Why?" was David could only say.

"Does it need a reason to love?" Pierre inquired David back in a soft tone, looking at him with a passionate gaze.

David stayed in a complete silence for awhile. The memories he had was running back into his head, the sweet ones, the bitter ones, everything blended in his mind.

Pierre put his hands on David's cheeks, making sure that their eyes connected one another.

David ducked his head slightly, avoiding Pierre's stare. His heart couldn't beat faster than now. Most part of him wanted to melt right then and there, giving in into Pierre's confession of love. But there was a tiny part of him that prevented him to say 'I love you' back.

"I don't know, Pie…" David finally spoke, sounding confused.

"I understand if you can't accept it, I mean, I'm not the one with a good record for you to trust me again," Pierre said with a gloomy voice.

David's brows burrowed in confusion. Actually, it was not just about his past experience with Pierre, but it was more because of his healthiness or lack thereof.

"Why don't you love someone else… someone who's healthy, someone who's…" was David managed to speak before Pierre's index finger stopped his sentence.

"I could find someone else, but it won't change the fact that that someone isn't you, Dave… I could close my eyes and tried to block the vision of you, I could close my ears and tried not to hear your beautiful voice, I could close my mouth and tried to stop myself for confessing my feeling for you, but I couldn't close my heart because I love you…" Pierre talked slowly, enunciating each and every word ever so clearly in hope that David would understand the way he truly felt toward him.

David's heart skipped a beat or two hearing those words of Pierre. He couldn't resist his feeling anymore. There was no reason for him to not believe in Pierre, to not believe in their love. Everything seemed blurred as he leaned closer and invited Pierre into a gentle, yet passionate kiss.

---

The darkness of the night blanketed inside the room. Sound of distant traffic was heard every now and again. And there David was, lying awake in the middle of the night, thinking over of things that had ensued earlier today.

He turned his head slightly to the side. Even in the darkness, David could see the figure of Pierre's sleeping face. Pierre's face was so near, he could feel warm breath of Pierre on his cheek. Strong arms of Pierre circled around his waist, as their feet tangled one another. David could feel the warmth irradiated from Pierre's body. He loved every touch he could feel right then, but a better part of him said something else.

Pierre's confession of love to him had struck him like a ton of brick, in a good way though. He had felt nothing but happiness. He could feel butterflies flew around in his stomach, making his heart pitter-patter of excitement. But now, at times when he could hear his mind ever so clearly, bad thoughts came up into his brain, messing up with every positive perspective he had before.

Worry and fear were now floating around his head. He was worried that tomorrow or in the near future, Pierre would come into his senses and realized that he wasn't in love with him. David was afraid that Pierre was just love the idea of loving him, because he felt guilty for leaving him before and felt responsible to make it up to him. He was feared that Pierre would leave him again, after realizing that he wasn't actually in love with David. David understood that there was a big chance of that. After all, he was nothing but a burden for Pierre. Right then, there was zero percent of Pierre might have been in love with him unconditionally.

David closed his eyes as the thought circulating in his mind. His heart was slowly torn apart by the possibilities. Tears were welling up, but he fought the urge to cry. He might have been just being a paranoid, but he surely had reasons to be one.

A moment later, he could hear Pierre sighing. Trying to sound asleep, David froze in his spot, anticipating of what would come next. Pierre was moving beside him, but much to David's surprised, Pierre was actually moving even closer to him. He could feel Pierre tightened up his embrace on David, as he put a soft kiss on David's cheek.

Three little words of 'I love you' that Pierre whispered on his ear had never sounded so sincere. Amazingly, those words eliminated the bad thoughts from his restless mind. He now finally convinced just how much Pierre cared for him. Pierre had given David a good reason for him not to worry about his worst fear.
