According to legend, once, over 20 years ago, Detective Comics was officially cancelled. Then the next day, the company thought better of it, & it continued anyway. Batman, after all, from the 1940's to the early 1980's, was largely seen as a silly & mockable character

It was almost 30 years on the dot. During the infamous DC Implosion. They just merged 'Tec and Batman Family. Someone in editorial pulled a save when they realized that they were cancelling DC's and comicdom's longest running title. They also thought better about the fact that it might look like utter defeat to cancel the title that both named and defined the company for so many decades
