REVIEW

I used to write movie reviews all the time, even had a review community that slowly died a while ago. So I decided to do these again, just write comments about movies and shows I'm watching, and post them here (to keep my LJ locked). Feel free to comment anytime and/or recommend me movies and shows.

Spoilers ahead for:

Based on the story written by Oscar Wilde, Dorian Grey is the story of a man that keeps his looks forever.

I didn't really like this movie. It was slow, it lacked force, there was no real point to the plot as it was told. I like Oliver Parker (the director), he made one of my favorite Shakespeare movies ever (Othello), but I think he relied on people already knowing what the story was about to make this film. It draaaaags. If you don't know what's really happening to Dorian and why he's not aging, then I don't know if you'll be interested in waiting a good hour and a half to find out (the movie lasts almost 2).

I blame the casting. Actually, I blame Ben Barnes. Yes, he's pretty, but he has one facial expression and it's a blank one. Even when he drinks, I don't believe he's drinking anything, even though I can see him swallow. Maybe he lacks experience, maybe he decided to approach the character that way. I don't know, but he just doesn't make it interesting.

Then you pair him up with Colin Firth (ok, I'm not a fan), and Ben Chaplin and the absolute delight that is Rebecca Hall, and he falls even shorter. I admit I watched this movie for Rebecca Hall and that's the only reason why I don't regret it. She's in the movie for about ten minutes and in that short amount of time, she manages to bright up the screen and throw a bit of strength, passion and actual acting in the mix. I just love her.

True Blood - Season 1

When I watched the pilot of this show, last year I think, I hated it. I absolutely hated it. So I never watched the series. Then I watched "The Vampire Diaries", and I really loved that show, so when I told friends that I loved it, they ALL recommended True Blood. I do listen to my friends.

I didn't hate the show this time, but I didn't love it either. I was happy to see vampires with fangs again, to see them feed, but it's not a show that I can't wait to watch. I sat through the entire first season just to see Eric (friends said he was the best part), and there is so little of him in this season (I'm half-way through the second right now). I think my favorite so far is Sam, and I don't like him that much either. So I'm just 'meh' about it. I AM liking Season 2 more but I'll tell you about it when I finish it.

True Blood - Season 2
I decided to add this one right here instead of making a new entry. I'm done with Season 2 and I did like it a bit more. It moved better, the acting was better but the Marianne storyline was boring in the end. I just didn't care enough and found myself fast forwarding through most of her and Tara's scenes.

What I did like, and liked a lot, was Eric. Oh, you deliciously evil man. I loved this character, I loved his interactions with Pam (how awesome is Pam?), and the way he acted around Godric as well. Now that's a character and dynamic that can keep my attention sparked for hours. Sure, he's pretty to look at (and freaking TALL), but I love the hints of depth there. You just know there's more to that character than what meets the eye. He's evil, he's twisted, he's so gentleman-like sometimes that it breaks all the evil aura he has, and I like that contrast, that contradiction.

I loved that he's a thousand years old (VIKING TOO), I loved that he does not blink! But what I loved the most were his interactions with Bill. Let's face it, Bill Compton is boring as hell, and when you see him next to this gigantic vampire, you really get to see just how small Bill is. He's younger, he's not as powerful, and he could be easily erased from the face of the Earth by one wink out of Eric's face. I loved that. I loved that Bill, being the lead male character in this, is tiny compared to Eric.

In short: needs more Eric. Pronto. I don't care how. This show just needs more Eric because he's the most interesting character in it. The end.

3 points too, just for Eric.
