PS I said I'm blonde, because that's what my girlfriend says. I was "strawberry blonde" (blonde with red highlights) as a little girl and now it's darker blonde with same. I usually say reddish-blonde on surveys, but you didn't offer that option. I sometimes say I'm red-headed, but it has never been the Carrot-top or deep, Maureen O'Hara, red. That's me in the icon with Amanda.
Heh, yeah, I didn't offer much options - sorry. I was trying to keep it as narrow as possible. It's certainly not the most profound of polls. Thanks for answering it! :)
Don't you think I look more red compared to Amanda's blond?
I have NO IDEA what you look like! (don't really care either...silly me!) Just guessed red to pick something. I saw that others picked brown. Will you be sharing a picture to resolve it for us?
That prompt just kinda came to me...I think of Teal'c and...candles. You'd think muscles would come to mind first!
Yeah, definitely more red than Amanda - but she is particularly yellow-blonde. The colour-names cover a multitude of possibilities.
And I'm starting to see that people don't necessarily have a mental image of other people on lj. I don't, either - but then again, when people have mentioned something about their appearance, my reaction often tends to be 'hm - I wouldn't have guessed that' - you know? It's like... there's not a complete preconception of what someone is, but there's kind of a preconception of what they're not. Or... something.
Sharing a picture... I might. I'm not very fond of putting pics of me up - I prefer to remain an enigma (*g*). But I do have some nice photos from my last holiday...
And Teal'c's muscles look particularly lovely by candlelight. :)
I don't remember a description of her, actually... I imagine she'd look like a grubbier, smaller, more real version of War, actually. And War was red-headed...
There's no option for "like your icon". In all honesty, in my head, you look like snarky fluff. With a few words of white writing with a coloured stripe behind them.
And the WIP to work on next isn't ticky boxes! I can only pick one! *is devastated*.
Yeah, I hadn't thought about that - sometimes we might not have any mental image as specific as hair-colour. I think I picture you as resembling a picture of Eric Idle, I'm afraid. (Not Eric himself, but a picture of him.) Still, could be worse - it could be John Cleese.
And I had a suspicion that, if I put ticky boxes, I'd get people voting for all of them. *is strict* Anyhow, I am going to work on all of them, eventually... I'm just no good at prioritising, so I'm getting you lot to do it for me. :)
Once you have an idea of someone's personality, preconceived ideas of someone from their looks disappear anyway, to a large degree
Absolutely. I'm curious, though, how it works the other way around - whether a preconceived notion of someone's personality affects your idea of their looks.
Not that this poll is really going to tell me much; it's not that scientific. But it's interesting.
And, heh. I think it's a more abstract idea of how you look, though... To me, most people on lj are really a collection of words - a way of phrasing things that is 'them'. Like you said before, to you, I look like snarky fluff.
Hmm, my hair is a rather complex issue. When I was a kid it was blonde. At about 11 or 12 it turned a rather boring bland brown. For the last 4 or 5 years through the miracle of chemistry my hair has been red. Therefore, I answered 'red' in the poll. I'm like over thinking this way too much.
Speaking of red hair, I saw an article the other day about how red heads in the UK are discriminated against and are picked on more than people of other hair colors. Have you ever noticed such a phenomenon?
I'm not so sure about the reality of the red-head discrimination thing. I suspect that it's mostly something cooked up by the tabloid press, to be honest - and ironically, they're the most likely to pick on something like that. Billie Piper's ex-husband, a DJ, is very red-headed, and every tabloid headline about him manages to have some pun on "Ginger".
But in real life? I don't think it's picked on than any other characteristic that makes someone stand out.
I do not see the captured by pirates WIP on the list *pouts*
As far as ethnocentrism goes, I think I'm not so much ethnocentric and egocentric. People I meet online, fictional characters, anyone I meet that doesn't come with a visual component, I automatically assume to be just like me. For instance, I'm always surprised when I learn that LJ friends are male or live in England or Africa or anywhere other than the US because I am female and live in the US, so obviously it's the same for everyone else. Everyone else also drives old green Hondas and needs glasses in order to read street signs. *shrug* I don't mean to be the center of the universe, I just am.

There's "Other"! I didn't want to put them all - got bored of writing it. :)

And that is exactly what I'm curious about. Because that's what I tend to do, too. Basically, I'm wondering if people will put mirrored answers - that they're blonde and they think I'm blonde, for example.
Notsomuch, so far, as it turns out... Another beautiful theory ruined. :)
