More than I'm glad you talked me into doing this exchange - and I'm really so, so glad you did! - I'm over-the-moon happy that you decided to do it yourself ( ... )

I'm so glad we did this together! Thank you so much for your story, too, and the great comment. I'm glad you liked it and the world building, especially. Sometimes I felt like I was throwing the kitchen sink at them, but I figured well, it's the apocalypse, lol. I'll just go big.

Honestly, starting around November 9th (hmmmm), it felt a little too real and I had to stop writing for a couple of weeks. Anyway, that's beside the point. Thank you thank you again for doing the challenge and for commenting!

Oh this was B E A U T I F U L. I can't believe how much the world changed between the start of this story and the end. From a place where death means so much less to where life and death are so much more important, so much more worth living despite what seems like a hopeless, miserable world, because Jensen has found this connection like he never had before.

I was expecting Jared to be a grizzled resistance fighter (like we see shades that he might become) when he stormed into the bedroom on that phone call, so to have him be this sort of unbelievably sweet and naively innocent thing despite the circumstances he's been living in was such a touching surprise, for me as well as for Jensen. I love how instinctively Jensen's bad parts reformed themselves to become a guard for Jared's goodness, that he never had to change for Jared despite how different they are, just sort of learned what his skills were really meant for.

This part:

“Maybe I feel bad for the people I hurt, but I’d ( ... )

Thank you so much. What great feedback! You know, when I started writing it, I thought Jared was going to be a bit farther on the path to grizzled resistance fighter, too. I'm glad you liked that he turned out to be a little more early in his resistance-fighting development.

Anyway, thanks for giving it a shot. I generally enjoy post-apocalypse fic (obvs) and I've written it once before, but I have to admit that after this year's election, I had to put this aside for a couple of weeks because it felt a little too on the nose :/ But I was happy to bring the boys around to a more hopeful place by the end.
