I didn't know about this kind of competition in my childhood and i don't think I'd want to participate. That a LOT of make-up. All 'beauty' competitions for children that I saw didn't allow make up in such amount (well, in my country). It was ok to use some, though. And it was not really a rule, but it was, I dunno, common knowledge or good taste if you will.

Personally I don't like pagents, but I think that if child really wants to participate, why not? But there's no need to overage child natural beaty. Also there's some talant tasks in competition, if I'm not mistaken? It's good for training public speaches, 'feeling the stage', especially if kid wants to perform on stage or be model.

P.S. Shannon, you look great! No make-ups can beat natural beauty )))

Thanks for the nice compliment! It seems some pageants in the U.S. require more natural make-up for children, which is good in my opinion. However, most of them are very fancy, requiring heavy make-up, highly manicured hair and expensive outfits. I guess these pageants do help with public speaking. :) I didn't think of this before.

I dislike make-up. Any make-up is evil.
I prefer girls with natural hair color, natural skin on the face. All natural is much more beautiful than artificial decorations.
By my opinion even jewellery on ears is unnecessary.

Barbie dolls is awful thing.

As adults, I think women should do whatever makes them comfortable and most beautiful. I just feel artificial in make-up. But I see no place for all of this face-painting on a child. Btw, are you new to my blog? I don't recognize your avatar or username. If so, how did you find me? I like to know how Russian users make their way here. :) Yes, Barbie is an evil invention!! :))

"trying to achieve unachievable..." Yes! I agree, this is the whole foundation and driving force behind the cosmetics and fashion industry. And thanks for the nice compliment. :)

When I saw the child's photo, I immediately thought about Irish dancing culture. You see, I did it for a while and saw a couple of competitions (not the high-level, just local ones). Girls who take part in championships would normally wear a lot of makeup, curly wigs and shiny dresses, but there are very strict rules for minors and younger children concerning outfits, hairstyles and the use of makeup. I'm not sure about championships, but at our local competitions, older girls can look really glamorous, while kids aged 6-7 would only wear green skirts and plain white shirts, with no makeup or wigs allowed. Hope this comment wasn't too random :)

The girl in the weblink is very natural and cute. This Irish folk dancing is also popular in America. :)
