It's also important to remember, Parr, that evolution isn't something that results in "perfect" solutions to problems. It is something that results in "a good enough solution." We're fascinated by how wonderfully constructed say, the eye is, but the eye is only as good as it has to be, and no better. Which is why it so often isn't all that good, and you and I and Dei wear glasses. This is basically what Dei said above, just more abstracted.
