What does happen is a strangled startled noise as Duke freezes up at the sudden contact to his shoulders and the sudden, rather unfamiliar, voice behind him.
And there went the books he was holding onto, thumping to the floor. ]

So if Duke accidentally knocks his head into James' while trying to join him in picking up books, it's because he can't see. Which makes questions of why he's got books if he can't see... ]
