To say that Cross was restless was an understatement. He would have preferred going into the Dead Zone on his own terms, and much more prepared than he was currently, but eh, that was life for you.
Damn castle.
He found his pack of cigarettes in a pocket of his, along with his regular lighter and the Lost Room lighter. Of course, out there they hardly worked, so the cigarettes were nothing short of useless.
He got up without disturbing the others, walking off a-ways from the group towards, well, nothing in particular really. He just wanted to think for a bit.
He was about to pass by the rock had he not seen that familiar glint of silver hair as he passed by. "Couldn't rest?"
She had heard Cross's movements, but had thought nothing of them. They were like white noise as she traced the oh-so-familiar pattern of Yogg-Saron in the stars above her, eyes narrowed. She was acquainted with the man, yes, but they had been grouped together through sheer circumstance. Certainly they would overcome this challenge and return to their respective lives

The Black Order General nodded, looking up at the sky as he crossed his arms. "When there is barely any background noise to get in the way of your thoughts, you find yourself thinking and reminiscing more on what could have led up to this."
Truth be told, he was also thinking of the past week and a half that seemed to fly by before all of this...this foolishness went down
( ... )
Shifting herself to dangle legs over the edge of the rock, she leaned forward, clasping hands together and touching them to her chin in thought. She had considered the witches to be suspects, but even they, as prideful as they seemed, wouldn't be foolish enough to announce their deeds.
"No doubt the true culprit isn't pleased by their predictions. It only makes sense that he or she would prove they are above even them. They broke the pattern because they wanted to prove they could."
She exhaled softly. "Though why we were chosen I still cannot understand. If anything, I see a connection between three of us, though that leaves Dick. It does not make sense when I try to think of any explanation."
"I do hope he isn't picked on by the dragons," he couldn't help but be teasing. The very thought of someone falling out of the sky into Paradisa - well, it certainly wasn't uncommon, but it was still jarring and, depending on the person, either worrying or downright hilarious. Vereesa's husband falling from the sky would be hilarious.
He couldn't help but pause for a moment. Ever since Dias de Los Muertos, he wasn't sure how to categorize Anita yet. Lenalee made it seem like they could have been lovers, but was there more to it than that?
Damn the castle and damn his loss for being so curious about it.
"No," he answered. "I am not exactly pursuing a relationship, either, but that may always change."
The answer surprised her. Perhaps not the fact that he was without a wife, but at the very least she had suspected him to be the type to keep a lover. She allowed her eyes to move over his form, taking in his full appearance. For a human, he was handsome. The professional manner in which he carried himself also added to his looks. Why then would he not care to pursue a woman?
"Does your line of work not allow for it?" She didn't know what his line of work was, but knew that often the men that did not look for love did not out of obligation rather than choice. But then, there were always exceptions.
"I only ask as I find it difficult to believe a man of your appearance has not found someone to entertain such ideas with."
An Exorcist who had time for an actual relationship? What a funny thought! An Exorcist who not only had time for a relationship, but got married and had a family while still working for the Black Order? Absolute insanity!
But hey, we're focused on the first point. Cross has never really made a move to take any encounter he had with a woman past a one-night stand. It was just that - one night (or a day and night, who knows) of just courting and some amazing sex, and then he was on to the next one. Then on to the next city, and the women in that city. But each woman had attention and care given to her, as she should.
The convenience of staying in China with Anita's mother was quite an excellent one - he could do his job AND have some fun all in the same place. But had anything really developed there? Eh, not really, except that she had become an ally of the Black Order, an outside source they could use in the future.
But then she passed away, leaving her daughter behind. And that daughter had to be Anita. The apparition of her

It's not to say that Vereesa believes the married life is the only happy life. However, after having met her husband, she cannot imagine reverting back to the life of immersing herself in her work and training. She often wondered where she would be had she left him when he insisted, but it was a quickly disregarded thought.
In fact, it was why being in Paradisa was so incredibly difficult. Since they had met they had not been apart for so long. Five months had passed since she'd first arrived and not a trace of him to be found. She didn't wish such a fate upon him, but a selfish part of her desperately wished he would simply fall from the sky if only because she missed him.
"An admirable policy, though perhaps a bit lonely," she said a little plainly. "Though, if it is so demanding, then I can understand why you would not consider it. That does leave me wondering what exactly it is you do for a living."
