Kid had thankfully managed to separate herself from Dr. Cid. He had seemed all right at first, but something in her gut told her that it had been a very big mistake to tell the man what she could do concerning time. Okay, more than a mistake; had Kid lost all common sense completely? "Stupid sheila," she muttered to herself, weaving around the crowd, "what the bloody hell were ya thinkin'?"
All right, so she hadn't been. It had sort of popped out of her mouth. She had to get out of the city for a while; at least take a walk to clear her head, away from all of these people. She had chosen a gate on her map and stalked to it, giving dark glances to anyone in her way. She was on her way out when she nearly stumbled into someone who looked like... a fairy?
"Well, bugger me," said the thief, crossing her arms and looking amused despite her annoyance, "I didn't except to find one of you in here."
Her short hover came to a quick halt when a much taller girl obstructed her path. Rikku gave a startled cry, nearly dropping the communication device she had just previously been handed. With a newly tightened grip on her treasure, Rikku quickly flew up to match eye level with the other, staring hard at her before giving a large grin. Who knew, she could have treasure too! Maybe this one would hand her something shiny
( ... )
"Careful, sheila," Kid laughed, crossing her arms. "Ya don't wanna drop one o' those." Not that it'd be hard to find a replacement, but the fairy didn't really look like she wanted to go find one right now. She looked into the fairy's face, noting the odd swirls instead of pupils (hey, Kid was a thief; why wouldn't she notice?) and grinned back.
"Yeah, the guards never wanna say much," she replied. "Cheerful blokes, though, ain't they?" The thief tilted her head, nodding. "I talk when I want," she agreed, "and I'm in a bit of a talkin' mood right now." At Rikku's question, she looked thoughtful. "We all got busy lives outside o' this place, looks like. I dunno how we come here, but people from all sorts o' worlds are brought here."
Kid grinned at the much smaller girl. "Who're you? Me name's Kid."
Rikku stared again, one arm stretching around the device to tap thoughtfully at her lower lip. What a strange name to call someone, she'd never heard the term before but this one said it again already. Did she think she was someone with that name? Her thoughts almost made her miss the words of advice and Rikku scrambled to get a more certain grip on the item in question. "Does it break easy?" She gave it a quick glance before speaking aloud again, though it was more to herself as she said, "treasure's no good if it breaks too easy."
Her attention shifted to her earlier greeter then back to Kid, growing more curious with each word the other girl said. Lucky, she thought, small body bobbing up and down in the air with her excitement. Maybe she'll know where Maleficent is! "From the other worlds, huh?" she echoed, leaning back a little. "So then there's gotta be a way back, yeah?" This was a lot to take in for a first timer! She would definitely have to take some time to let it all register, and even more important was that she needed

"It might," came the answer with a careless shrug. "I've never tested it, and I've never been in the mood to find out." She caught the murmur and laughed. "I dunno," Kid continued, "I've found a lot of good treasure that breaks easily." And by 'found,' of course, she meant stole, but this stranger didn't need to know that - even if she seemed to have a couple of things in common with Kid.
She nodded, flipping blonde bangs out of her face. "Yeah. There are lots of people here that aren't native - and I'll bet me bum there's a way back." There had to be; every way in had a way out, however difficult, and Kid intended to find it. She couldn't help but laugh at Rikku's introduction, though. "Nice t'meetcha. Where're you from?"
