Working titles

            My working title for the Girl Scout story will be “No Campfire, Girls”, which is certainly better than the “Burning Brownies” that someone suggested!

Meanwhile, the working title of my “space opera” novella, which is flirting with becoming a novel, is: “Beowulf: In Harm’s Way”. Or possibly “The Beowulf: In Harm’s Way”,

No, leave out the "The...." says I; something about it impedes the flow when I say it to myself. Unless it's really REALLY important to link it to the ship (and would I even know that anyway? Not unless you told me.)

NC,G makes me do a double-take and then chuckle; BB is more of a "WTF?" effect. So yes, the former is much better. (A girl scout story - well, you've written Slayer stories, so it seems a natural transition to me. An army of GS out to sell Thin Mints is a formidable thing!)

It is good that I've already had experience writing teenage girls -- not to mention living with them for far too long! Of course, "Burning Brownies" was never going to work, for more than one reason.

I'm also leaning toward leaving out "The" in the space opera story, especially since Beowulf is the ship's unofficial name; like the old PT boats of WWII, the Beowulf is a class of small patrol ships that nobody thought were important enough to give names to. I'm having a lot of fun with my eclectic crew.

Yeah, a lot of unsavory associations started popping in my head when I thought about that one for all of...30 seconds.

I do too! Doesn't quite fit this story, but maybe I'll hold it back for some future project!

Me too! But as I mentioned in an earlier post, my fictional girl's group is not affiliated with the real Girl Scouts, so you can see why that wouldn't work for me.
