Wow, congratulations! I know that feeling, where you are not quite done dotting every i but for the first time you suddenly see exactly what you have to do to be finished, you see the finish line and know all you need is a little time.

So exciting! I've written so little creatively, but it's such an amazing feeling to look back and say, "I made that, it wouldn't be in the world but for me, but it's real and cool and if I hadn't written it I would want to read it myself." Go you.

Yes, exactly. It is a neat feeling, although the idea of letting it go entirely is also a little terrifying. :)

Thanks! :)

It's funny, writing a novel was always one of my childhood ambitions, but I then I set that idea aside. *checks the word count, which approaches 150,000* Guess what?

Although I have to wonder how much a decent editor would cut out. ;)

This was your first very long fiction, was it not?

It is a strange feeling - this coming to the end of a project which has driven one for a long time. I understand your feeling about buffing it up a little more, adding the final polish. It is like being glad a child is finally mature enough to make it on his own but still having to make sure he has clean socks and underwear without holes in it. I am unable to tell you when you will not wake up in the night with another idea or a fresher way to say something in this work. It is part of the imperfect art which is creative writing.

Congratulations! You set yourself a goal and you have reached it. The story is good and was worth the telling. You have added a dimension to my life with your creation. ;)

Yes. It's also my second piece of fiction writing *ever*, at least since I gave up writing as a teenager. About a year in the making -- I can't remember when I started it exactly, but I think it must have been in January or so. (It took me a few months to muster the guts to post anything publically.)

The idea of considering this story finished is actually a little scary. I've already done a thorough editing run on the first half, so I will need to do that with the second at some point, but at some point I'm going to have to step away from it and say "enough". And that's hard (as I'm sure you well know!).

Wow. Thank you. It's hard for a writer to ask for more than that. :)
