Vegetarians and Vegans, lend me your experience and opinion:
What non-hoofed gelatin-like substance is best for (faking) "jello"?
Recommendations? Any tricks?
I'm shooting for a mid-Century, mid-America jello salad here. -

last grill
Yesterday was the last sunny afternoon of the year. Excepting this one. After a worthless attempt to get into the office and catch up on some of the work I shirked by being sick last week, I came home, did a little straightening of the house, and put together a plan to BBQ.

I feel about as energetic as a wrung-out dishrag. I am so tired that I'm losing language, both verbal and typewritten. It was a wonderful weekend, as always. rain... rain... !
Last night's rainstorm woke me. It was loud and glorious. The sound was a roar of drums, muffled waves crashing continuously, tiny wheels on rails. My nerves sang; my heart rather lonely.
And this morning my back hurt from poor sleep all week. Horace Phair is near! and the chronotectonic preter-echoes are interrupting my dreams. -

lunar eclipse
I woke at 3:05am and went out to the backyard to join Laurel watching the eclipse. At that point the moon was entirely red. After about a half-hour, she went back inside, to bed. I stayed out until about a quarter of it re-appeared. It was very nice to sit out in the near-quiet and the chill and to think. -
