BSOD 4volt May 10 2005, 04:42:07 UTC
That is truly amusing, I’m surprised that there's even a level above the bsod, the only times I’ve gotten the bsod in the last few years is if my computer is quite screwed, as in something is wrong with my hardware. Though I have seen a few poorly written programs give it to me.

I'm crossing my fingers and hoping to see if the rsod has a flashing title that says, "Danger Will Robinson" and beeps annoyingly.

I have to be fair; XP has very rarely BSOD'd me lately. Oddly, it seems that the culprit is always the drivers for the integrated graphics on the motherboards we've got. This isn't an isolated issue for me; both my laptop (a toshiba satellite, maybe three years old) and our new desktop (an HP) suffer from these intermittent scourges.

A lot of the wrong that microsoft inflicted on everybody with the constant BSODs and reboots and so on seems to have been corrected in XP--the trouble is, not very many people are willing to shell out the bucks to upgrade their OS. Thus, most of the wretched world wallows in BSODs.

I have not seen the Linux equivalent of the BSOD. Sure, some of my apps have segfaulted from time to time, and I'm still learning how to kill runaway processes....but, again, very few showstoppers.

Yes, I have several laptops that suffer from similar problems, The tough part about laptops, is that if you stick with the OS that came on them eventually you want to reinstall, and once you do I have more problems getting correct drivers, cant get power management to work, ect, ect... And the manufacturers are rarely helpful.

I've actually got in the habbit of re-installing windows every 8 months or so on all my personal computers, which if you think about it, is pretty stupid to have to do, but it does help with lockups alot.
