I know I am an adult and I have my own money and I can buy what I want, whenever I want (I mean, within reason) but there is is still this part of me that was so well trained as a child

Yes - if I buy myself anything worth more than about £5, I let my SO wrap it for me, for Christmas. And he doesn't really buy much, but we bought him a coat and a dressing gown in town, and he said to keep it till Christmas.

Completely understand! I feel that way when it comes to other stuff though and not necessarily myself.

Funny you should post this because my hubby told me just the other day "don't buy yourself anything, give me a list instead." BUT, that's not always easy, if you see something on sale or you need something now. I've taken to buying it anyway. When it comes, I open it, see if it is okay and if it works/fits, then I close it up, give it to hubby and say you just bought me this for Christmas.

Not any more. Once we were in our forties, we only bought gifts for the nieces and nephews. That means Christmas shopping meant we were shopping for ourselves at the same time :D

I wish that was the case with our 5 ear old in the house, hell she just got a new toy even if it was from a yard sale *eye roll* and they wonder why she acts like a spoiled brat when she doesn't get what she wants. That's a good idea though, I wish more parents would implement that on kids before Christmas.

That's good to always stick to it though. Try to buy it before you tell them what you want if you can. I can imagine that's really hard to do if you see what you want on a Black Friday and second guess if you want to get it or not.

I'm not totally like that cause I mainly ask my friends 3 things from high to low and see what I can afford to buy them each. I just hope they don't end up buying it before I do.
