"Talk, Ripper," Spike snarls, knowing that if Giles is a Vampire now, he must also be delving back into all the dark magic he tried so hard to keep Buffy and the Scoobies from discovering. All those nasty, twisted secrets that Spike'd known the moment he'd met the dubiously calm, British librarian are sure to come spilling back out into the open now. He wonders if it'll start with dragons or just more blood shed.
Giles smiles, and Spike wishes that wide smile with blood sparkling between his fangs didn't stir him. "You want revenge. I can make it yours."

Sometimes, she thinks no one in the world can ever understand her. Her friends, though they try, will never truly understand the weight of the Slayer's duty nor will Giles. Her mother tries the hardest of all and yet also is the one furthest from understanding her. Then she finally learns her secret.
One morning as the sun's rising after another nasty, almost-ended-the-world battle, Joyce turns to her and tells her how proud she is. Buffy sees how tired Joyce is in her mother's eyes. She sees the exhaustion of fighting for her own world, for a mother and daughter to make it in a world that aches to tear them apart. Buffy smiles as they hug, thinking maybe she is her mother's daughter after all.

There are so many times she tries not to think about what she's doing, how she's laying her life on the line for people who could never be worthy to have them save their asses. There are so many times she tries valiantly to ignore the pain of her visions and her fear of what they will eventually do to her. There are so many times when she's afraid for all of their lives, but then, in those rare times in between fighting Demons and saving the world, Angel smiles at her and Cordelia remembers why she does it all.
