Oh, my laid back, benevolent teacher voice is much better than my 'I really mean this' teacher voice.

Nonetheless the latter is totally necessery once in a while. :)

I made Honey Joys when I was in preschool! Probably every child does. Naturally I had a somewhat different perspective on the whole operation...

Not my kids, at least this year. Last thing I cooked with them was stone soup (from the folk tale). This week we will cook potato wedges, because we will be learning about hanukah, and potato latkes are just too damn hard. :)

It occurs to me sometimes that I'm strange...

My flatmate and I have been living off stone soup for a few weeks ... what's hard about potato latkes? Maybe you have a different way to make them than we do - they're basically the equivalent to honey joys the way I make 'em, at least in construction.

Potato Latkes - its basically grated raw potato with salt and flour shallow fried in olive oil, right?

At the moment I am a bit nervy about having a frypan in the same room as my 24 wonderful 4/5 year olds. Partly its a room layout thing - I don't have a powerpoint in my non carpeted area, and neither risking oil stains in the carpet or having trailing power cords attached to a sizzling electric frypan seem like a good idea. Also I have some particularly impulsive kids in this batch, and I'm just not certain enough that I can keep all of their curious little fingers away from the hot oil.

However you have given me a thought... I wonder if I can make baked latkes?

That made me laugh out loud. I love it! Why can I see similar cooking adventures with Talia in future?

At roleplaying the other week, I wandered into the kitchen with Talia, just as Stu was taking pizza out of the oven. He put it down, looked at her and said:

"One day, I will teach you to make pizza."

I love it! And it's a suitable opportunity for excessive mess making. :)
