Of course this should have been in Trek Support, but did anyone ever explain why the writers chose the name Noonien Soong for Data's dad? I know it got tied back around in Enterprise, with the Arik Soong storyline implying that the name was chosen by the family as a tribute, but what was the extratextual reason?

I wonder what Noonien Singh would think of Noonien Soong.
Probably, 'Damn, man, if I could've installed my dying wife in an android body so real even she wouldn't suspect she was no longer organic, I could've taken everything else in stride.'
Also 'Your sons are very cute, but kind of twitchy.'
