Little coverage? How about fatigue in the USA.

We intervened in Libya (I mean, ahem, NATO) and people are still cursing us for it. Not because it was a good cause or a bad cause, but because we intervened.

We are hated (justly) for acting like the world cops, and when we don't act like world cops we are cursed like an evil God. Can you understand why these posts are met with silence from progressive America? If we (and our President) intervene, it's colonialism. If we don't, it's genocide.

Why don't Americans respond to posts about Israel's depredations? Same reason. Most Americans despises the genocide tactics of Israel, but to even say that is an instant flamewar.

Goddamn, I'm tired of this

Oh my god. Poor you. it must be so hard to be this war-mongering World Power. And to be judged by people whose countries live ACTUAL MASSACRES.

Being judged for "intervening" is not actually more important than massacres in a developing world country.

That's a very informed comment, with context compleat. Yes, I am this WORLD MONGERING POWER ..me.

Are you drunk?

Because, hey bra. That's okay. I'd rather have a drunk conversation with you than nothing. I'm drunk too. And an American! Let's talk, dude.

I'm keeping a close eye on Syria, but...yeah, a lot of my sources are not things I could put into the post queue here at Planet _P! I'll talk to the mod team, see if we can do an info post?

I wish there was more stuff in the English-language media - though as noted, Al Jazeera English is doing relatively well - but with the press blackout and factors like that, it can be hard to find coverage.

This is not Planet_P!

I feel I am speaking for all of ont_p in saying POST HERE

Please post here... we can even find a way so you can POST HERE. Many of us know ways to use the dark back alleys of the internet.

I can't. It'd cost my husband his job, and potentially several of our friends (or my husband himself for that matter) their lives. I already use those dark back alleys you speak of. I wish I could say some of what I know and some of what I'm hearing, because it NEEDS to be talked about, but...I can't risk saying anything that's not already freely available somewhere. I won't risk that.

I've just made post up in the mod comm about setting up a central Syria-post for links to sources, context, discussion etc. I'll see what the rest of the team say, and we'll get something going.

Who is this to?

This seems hideously complicated. Basically you need a no-fly zone and to take out the positions from which Assad is shelling his people from to stem the bloodshed. It seem the only language he'll understand. But with him having allies like Iran and Russia it could escalate out of control very quickly.

So what to do? Have a proxy war like in the Cold War where allies on one side (the USA and Saudi Arabia) arm the rebels while the others (Russia and Iran) continue to supply the Assad regime?

I've also been less-than-thrilled with the lack of Syria posts here, but considering I have to read about it in French (and am not comfortable enough in my grasp of the language to translate), I guess I'm not surprised.

I think an info post would be really useful & good to have.

I've put up a post about doing exactly that sort of Syria-centric info post in the mod-com. I'll see what the other mods have to suggest, but there will probably be a context/reliable news source link/discussion post up fairly soon.
