My SO works right outside of a training post that serves all the branches of the military - he says he's never seen a female Seabee!

Really? My mom was a Seabee, and while I knew she was a minority I seemed to run into a bunch of other female Seabee's growing up so I never thought of it that way.

ETA: And I just looked the Seabee's up to see if there was an official gender ratio and found out their motto is "can do". My mom has been using that for all her internet accounts EVER. I feel like a horrible daughter now for not making the connection. D:

getting to know our parents when we're adults is fascinating, IMO--they're our template for what being human means and then we realize they have all this history :)

That's an awesome motto. And don't feel bad! Our parents say and know things we associate just with them - it's not always easy to make the leap from 'parent' to 'world'.

How awesome that your mom was a Seabee! I always loved the name, as a kid - just made me smile. My dad was in the Navy so he talked about them sometimes.
