Really long indeed; I'll have to finish the rest later.

I will never forget the account of Ron L. Hubbard's son when he got out; nightmare fuel would be an accurate description. Haggis also saw through the lies but not everyone does so IDK how anyone can help the various members who still buy it. People often really hold on to stuff even after they've figured out something isn't adding up but when the risks could be really high it's a real struggle to get out. They could lose everything.

Scary.

“You and I both know there has been a hidden anti-gay sentiment in the church for a long time.

A hidden anti-gay sentiment in a church that claims to cure gay people, and wants to kill the ones they can't? "Remove quietly and without sorror", I believe the wording was.

I was familiar with some of the stuff about CoS from clambake.org, but it's interesting to see it in such detail from an insider's point of view.

(NGL, I do like New Yorker's long-form journalism done well like this.)

That was a great read. Holy crap are those people insane! Of course the celebrities don't think the "church" is the bad guy, since they aren't exposed to the real treatment that their regular members are. Tommy Davis is all about deny! deny! deny! I love that the military documents for Hubbard were proved to be fake. I wonder why it is that Tom Cruise has so much damn power, other than the fact that he is rumored to be Miscavige's lover. Those people are a creepy bunch.

The more I learn about Scientology the more it just looks like a bunch of white rich folk who happily ignore anyone getting fucked over so they can keep their little privilege club ( ... )

Every time I read that I just can't even compute how the hell people don't laugh when they read that. At least Haggins had the common sense to call it madness.
