Unfortunately, I won't be helping you. After 22 years as a Republican, I saw what the party was becoming in 2000 and bailed out on them. So did the rest of my family, including my mom, who did GOTV for Goldwater in 1964 and gladly voted for his son as our representative in Congress. We're all now Democrats.

I read about Muhammad Ali Hasan, and while I cannot find Pelosi that inspiring, but I can understand his defection, though Bush caused me to leave the GOP in 2004 (I voted for Badnarik since I just couldn't get myself to vote for Kerry).

Hopefully he can have some real influence on the Democratic Party, which will regain many Blue Dog seats it lost in November, and hopefully he can be influential in the future of the Colorado Democratic Party.

Arab-Americans used to be much more solid Republicans and Bush did very well in 2000 among Muslim voters. The GOP needs to learn a lesson from this. The Christianists are a huge albatross and have no roots in logical traditional theological disputes. Canada's first Muslim MP was a member of the right-wing Alliance and there are Muslim Tories in the UK. The GOP needs to get with the program and find a home for the sane right or get out of the way for a more sensible conservative alternative that can compete in New England and the West.
