Hello everyone, i arrived back online this week after 22 days at sea! If you are interested to see some pics of what i saw traveling to China on a cargo ship, i bundled together all my LJ entries here: http://amw.livejournal.com/279646.html

I'm in Taiwan now where we had a tropical downpour for a few days. There was flooding and landslides and some roads got washed away. The sun is shining again today, the air steamy and humid, so i decided to jump on a train to Tainan. This country is great*.

_p content... One thing i did when i was on the boat was subscribe to the Guardian on Kindle, which is a daily delivery of probably about 3/4 of the online content. It changed the way i followed the news, which used to be somewhat obsessively in real-time, but now i am just reading full articles once a day that cover news that happened the day before. It's a much calmer way to stay up to date, i think.

(*Opinion strongly influenced by deliciousness of food.)

Apparently cargo vessels have always carried passengers, though it is getting less common these days. There are several shipping companies that offer passenger berths, NSB Reederei and CMA-CGM were the two that i contacted. You do have to be fairly flexible with time since there can be delays and changes, and you need to get a yellow fever vaccination and sign some waivers, but other than that it was pretty straightforward.
