NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - The Church of Scientology is coming to Harlem.

The church is building a multi-million dollarchapel and community center on East 125th Street between Second and Third Avenues.

It is slated to open next year.

Eh. The journalist said "many Harlem residents" but only quoted one unidentified woman. I think it has yet to be seen whether a church that will likely draw most of its attendees from outside the neighborhood will really contribute to the neighborhood.

I've passed it before; I wouldn't exactly call it huge. It fades into the rest of the buildings pretty inconspicuously and you could easily walk right past it without realizing what you're walking past. I only noticed it because I was in the car with some friends and one of them yelled "Haha, the Scientologists are putting a church HERE?"

Ugh, Scientologists are just as shameless Megachurch Christians. Preying on people's insecurities and fears in scam their money out of them for the promise of a better future that they have no way of delivering.
