Girls Kissing Girls: Explaining the Trend
By Jeffrey Kluger
Britney and Madonna did it; so did Scarlett Johansson and Sandra Bullock. And so do women in bars, at mixers, on the street and, increasingly, in private - especially when those women are college students. The “it” is the kiss, of course, and even before Katy Perry celebrated the all-girl

"It's usually brought on by, I don't know, like shots or drinking or people kind of saying something to like cheer it on or whatever," said one female student the professors interviewed. "And it's usually done in order to turn guys on or to seek male attention in some way."
Are they using statements like this as data??? How can you draw conclusions about the motivation behind actions from the assumptions of interviewees? Is this woman talking about her own motivations, or is this just how she percieves the actions of others? Additionally I tried to trace the article back and look at the original research and found:
(1) an "unfortunate" Time magazine article with the following tags, "bi-curious, heteroflexibility, lesbian till graduation, Love & Family, LTG, male gaze, Sexuality". Where is the word Bisexual? Even worse why is it LGT with no "B"????
(2) a "pay lots of money for this important research work" page
(3) links to their "reference materials", a video of Katy Perry's "I Kissed a Girl" video and a clip from "The Tyra Banks Show" on girls kissing.
(4) a picture of what I presume is the the two (females) researchers, kissing each other (!).

Uh no. That's only what you think because for some inexplicable reason you're obviously insecure and homophobic.
Besides, my first "girl girl" kiss was done in a "woman's" bathroom with no guys watching because she said, "do you know what a French kiss is?" and I was like, "no?" And then she showed me. Certainly wasn't for the benefit of any men. /Cool story
But UGH this article. UGH.

I know that my experience is not universal, but this is totally contrary to what I've heard in the lesbian community. Are they actually citing some sort of research here or is 'so many' just 'some unverified amount that we're calling statistically significant because it's better for our argument'?
