The Gardens and Great Hall of Cair Paravel - Saturday Evening

Nov 08, 2008 18:35

Music had begun pouring through the gardens and halls of Cair Paravel as soon as the High King and the new Queen of Narnia were announced to their guests and subjects.

The decorations stayed in the trees, and as the sun went down, tiny lights woven through the branches appeared, keeping the gardens well-lit for socialising and dancing.

"Nice job being a groomsman, Tyler," Parker said as she walked up on Ronan's arm. "And... you *are* the Tyler who was in our class, right? Not some other Tyler for some other reason?" She tilted her head. "Because if you have no idea who I am, any compliments I pay you are going to be even more out of left field."

"It's me," Tyler claimed. "Thank you. Walking was such a challenging assignment, but I pulled it off for English."

"And you are Parker, my homegirl. How have you been?"

Parker laughed and sat down in a chair near Tony and Tyler, and gestured to Ronan. "My friend, Ronan Nolan. And I've been great, second year of college at Oxford. You, though, you went and got older! So not fair. Xander, Anakin, you, everyone gets to be older and distinguished but me."

She might have been adding "and hot" onto that, in her head.

"Your world moves too slow, Parker," Tyler told her, shaking his head in mock-sorrow at this fact. "I did. I skipped about a decade compared to Fandom. Good to meet you, Ronan."

"Then again, I wouldn't want to be out of touch from everyone for that long," Parker admitted, remembering Xander's confusion when he came back. "Although it barely feels like I've left, when everyone gets married every few months, or we visit each other, or there's Homecoming." She may have shuddered on that word. "And you're teaching? What course?"

"And you," Ronan said, taking a seat as well. He totally wasn't checking out either Tyler or Tony. Of course not.

He paused. "You're a teacher at the school, yes?" he asked.

"After about three years of it, you kind of decide Fandom didn't exist," Tyler told Parker, then turned to Ronan. "I am. Chemistry. Are you student or alumni?"

"Student," Ronan said, silently adding an unfortunately and belatedly hoping that Tyler wasn't a telepath. "A senior, this year."

Tony meanwhile, was busy putting his free arm over the back of Tyler's chair. And vague looks of 'back off' he gave Ronan when it came to Tyler was completely in his head. "I think this is the youngest wedding I've been to so far."

Parker, seeing this, was extremely amused, given Tony's 'friend' remark from before, and therefore leaned forward to trail a fingernail over Tony's hand. Juuuuust to see what would happen. "Thank God they're not letting anyone get married *in* high school, at least. And that any hallucinatory weddings that take place on the Island are always null and void off of it. Or Ronan and I would be in trouble."

Wait. They were never going to mention that again. Oops.

They were friends! Honest!

Tyler snickered to take attention away from the little battle of touchy-feely. "I'm sorry, did I miss a chance to send you a wedding gift?"

Ronan rolled his eyes. "No. Because nothing happened. PArker and I didn't see each other at all on Homecoming weekend. Honest."

The sharp jab of his elbow to Parker's side? Totally accidental. Honest.

Parker pouted at him, then turned the sadface back on Tony and Tyler and dialed it up to eleven. "This is why it never would have worked out. If it had happened. Which it didn't." She kicked Ronan's foot under the table, then sneakily tapped it over to pat Tyler's. "Irreconcilable differences. Friends works, right?"

She winked.

Tyler's eyes widened briefly, comically, at the tap, but he tapped back. He wondered if Parker had forgotten how very out of his league she had been in high school.

Not so much anymore, he realized.

"There's nothing wrong with having friends," he babbled. "They're very good things, when you can find one."

"Exactly," Tony cut in smoothly. "Though I'm surprised to see you and-- Parker are such old friends."

"Tyler and I?" Parker tilted her head. "I think I threatened him once, actually, but we did hang out a bit, we're both from Delaware, and... Tyler? Remind me, did we beat any bad guys up together?"

That was a pretty common Fandom bonding experience, after all.
