This article is inaccurate in some places. My friends in Seoul went to a CGV theatre to watch The Desolation of Smaug without any bigger problems, same for me and I live in what you'd call Korean countryside. ;)
Is Snowpiercer really a Korean movie? It certainly doesn't feel anything like anything near the local productions here, to be honest.
Snowpiercer is an international co-production. (Imdb lists South Korea, USA and France which makes sense not only in the who-put-money-into-it kind of way but also because it's Bong Joonho's English-language debut based on a French graphic novel series.) Have you already seen it? How did you like it?
Yeah, I saw it when it was still in the theatres here!
And I loved it and it pisses me off that other countries didn't get to see it yet (besides France). And that it's supposed to be cut to "fit" American audience. It's such bullshit. The movie is so precisely made that cutting even one minute of it will make a huge difference. And I heard they wanted to cut a very important (and one of the most terrifying/leaving the hugest impact) scene too.
Acting was phenomenal (Tilda Swinton! Chris Evans! John Hurt!), plot was disturbing yet fascinating and I can't even describe the music (mighty need for the OST tbh).
Argh sorry for this long reply, I've been craving Snowpiercer for the longest time now. D:
Thanks so much for your thoughts! I can't wait to see it but I'll have to wait until early April when it opens here. (I hope we'll be getting the uncut version, or at least on a future DVD release!)
