Well, it was a boring Semifinal anyway

May 10, 2017 10:41

so I'm glad I didn't commit myself to liveblogging about it. (I do hope I'll manage to do the finals on Saturday.)

I did not actually go to bed. But because it was a rather unexciting Semifinal, I couldn't tear my eyes off Robert Harris' Imperium until there was no more book left. It was RIVETING, I tell you, and I can't wait to get my hands on ( Read more... )

the media made me do it, tv, fangirl mode is on, books

I actually have Prime for the shipping; the video streaming is just a nice bonus.

I didn't really care for the book of American Gods -- to me, it felt like Gaiman was trying to grow as an author and not quite making it. Anansi Boys was, in my opinion, a better take on the themes. But I digress; sorry.

Amusingly, it was exactly the other way around for me - I absolutely loved American Gods while I felt that Anansi Boys tried to top the game but fell flat. So I'm not afraid that I won't like the story; I'm just afraid that it will be disappointing for the bookworm that I am! :D

Thanks for the book recommendation. I have heard of Robert Harris' Imperium and I love that kind of fiction if it is well done, so I intend to put it on my to-read list! Thanks!

Lovely flowers. I adore getting flowers even if they are not elegant arrangements but more slightly shop-worn ones available at street corner groceries in Brooklyn (rumor has it that they come originally from fancy florists and have seen better days--I'll take their cast-offs for a reasonable price; I could never afford the originals!). This one of your looks like the very upscale flower arrangement.

I thoroughly enjoyed it and hope you will, too! It's the first part of a trilogy, so there's more where it came from. :D

It definitely is. It came from an upscale florist and was brought to my door by special delivery. (Special delivery lady was very rustic, though. In a nice way! But a strong contrast to the delicate fanciness of the flowers!) I don't normally buy flowers for myself -- not so, I lie, I buy flowers and herbs regularly, but the potted kind for the garden! I don't grant myself the luxury of ephemeral bouquets, fancy or otherwise! Normally, if I have a vase of flowers on the table, it's either because one of the kids plucked them or because I had to cut something back! So this really is something special. Eeee!

I usually don't get flowers either and if I ever do, I end up putting them into something like a beer Stein in lack of a vase ;)

Awww. Flowes from Felix. ♥ looking forward to such tiny presents from my kiddo :)

Ironically, I have quite a collection of nice vases (well... I think they're nice? ;)), mostly thanks to my grandmother. But I so rarely use them!

The time will come! And it's so hard to teach what flowers to pick (and to take some stem along with the blossom so you can actually put them in a vase). ♥

I actually got Prime for exactly that reason, but have been so busy that I haven't go around to watching it. They're releasing one episode per week, so depending on how it goes my recommendation would be to wait for the whole season to air.

I'll let you know, when I get around to watching it, if it's any good.

I've seen some images and I'm really excited as American Gods is one of my favourite books :D

Chances are I won't have the patience to wait so long. But that's OK. We can squee (or rant!) together then. :D

I KNOW RIGHT? *flails and runs around in excitement*
