IIRC, on my first read I was sort of fascinated by Maedhros (first by the sound of his name, and then the awesome rescue story); but I only "fell in love" very late in the book -- with Eärendil. I'm still very fond of him (even though I want to slap him, too). Every now and then, my brain returns into Eärendil fangirl modus. It probably needs that to recover from the overwhelming Fëanorian presence ;)
2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now
Fëanor and his sons. On my first read, I pretty much followed the book's bias, so they were very clever and brilliant people but mostly villains. Needless to say, by now I'm firmly in the Fëanorian camp and not likely to leave it again...
3. The character everyone else loves that I don’t
Again, "everyone else" is saying too much. But I know Ecthelion, Glorfindel and Erestor are hugely popular, and I really can't get myself interested in them.
