In general, I think it's worth watching... I'm grading it on the scale of sci-fi television. JMS's writing is about epic galactic conflicts without losing the human qualities that make a story interesting. The histories, characters, and interactions are believable, and the plots unfold very logically, so it strikes me as more satisfying than just a fluffy space opera. If Star Trek is the squeaky clean optimistic future that sometimes turns into morality plays, and Battlestar Galactica is the dark, gritty war future, B5 is something in between. It's oversimplifying a bit to call it GRRM + LotR in space, but I'm not sure how to briefly describe its strengths and flaws =)
