Disallowing same-sex marriage. Bullying. Depression. In order to become a freer society, America must embrace the feminine, writes singer Alanis Morissette.
I just don't like the constant separation between men and women, masculinity vs. feminity. Instead of trying to become the status quo or incorporate the "Other," I'd rather attempt to deconstruct/abolish the system that puts those roles there in the first place. Society is moving past them tbh. Being feminine no longer means having a vagina. You can have or incorporate both masculine and feminine. These roles aren't static.
I'm sorry if I'm not wording this very well, this is a topic I wish I studied more thoroughly as far as the conversations and dialogues that are taking place in academia right now.
sorta OT but omg yesterday was a bad day. i felt so alone and invisible and small, i had a group project to do and i would ask questions and no one would answer me and eventually they just left. i ended up crying when going home, university really has ruined me, i don't think i'll ever be the same again and i'm so angry at myself for coming here
i want people to read stories about GOOD, INDEPENDENT WOMEN. and what happens when people are so compliant and afraid of the term "feminist" to stand up for what's right.
Hmm this was pretty interesting but I feel I need to probably read it more carefully. I get what she's saying though.
I wear lolita fashion daily and it's hilarious how many people seem almost offended that I would choose to cover most of my skin and wear layers and petticoats and all that. I think the typical look at the university I work at is 'North Face jacket + jeans/leggings' so I guess it's just shocking because the clothes I wear are basically the opposite.
I've heard suggestions such as perhaps I am 'repressing' myself by wearing a skirt nearly every day.
I used to be a major tomboy though, and it's really fun for me to explore my "femininity" or what the fuck ever through my choices with fashion.
Back in my lolita days I remember a dude from my HS asked me and my friend if we were Amish (nevermind the fact there are no Amish people in my country lol), we were like yes hallelujah jesus that's exactly why we wear frilly pastel skirts
