One of the earliest Cena roles I remember is him playing the dad in Nickelodeon's FR3D movie. He's been not taking himself too seriously from the start.

I think it was in The Rundown in 2003 that had The Rock walk into a bar in the jungle & Arnold Schwarzenegger is walking out and says to him; "Have fun." (or something like it) and the producers made such a big deal about that bit was him "handing the action hero torch" to The Rock.
