Totally believe the multiple takes, but the one that Aster chose to use was very funny. I knew the voice sounded familiar, but I didn't pick up on it being Hader right away.
Unfortunately someone came into our completely full theater and tried to tell the people behind us they were in the wrong seats at the point in the movie when they do a very quick reveal for this cameo (a news camera interviewing the delivery driver, so idk why they are calling it a hidden cameo but whatever), so I was laughing but also very distracted. And to be clear, this was like an hour into in the film. Eventually they gave up and left but it was very annoying!
I went to see this last week and then a pipe burst in the theater halfway through and the movie stopped and nobody was sure if it was an emergency or part of the bit.
One day I’ll see the second half of this movie I guess!!!
lmao when I watched Tree of Life years ago the screen kept going dark every few seconds, but we could still hear everything and no one reacted for like five minutes because we all thought it was part of it.
My (second) audience reacted with audible joy when he appeared (from the back) in that one scene. 💗 And there was a little bit of applause for Nathan Lane, which is funny enough, but apparently there was a LOT of clapping in L.A., according to Kevin T. Porter?? I love us.

someone needs to leak this scene cause I’m not sitting through three hours right now. this is what Ari Aster said about the cameo:
"We're buddies. I think he's just great. I was looking for a place to put him and [that] felt like the funniest, the most effective possible place. I love his performance in the film. It's a covert performance. A lot of people don't know that's him on the phone when they first see it. But it's a great performance."
produce the horror movie he wants to make Ari please. we need it.
