Official promotional stills from the 'Gossip Girl' TV show
Based on the popular book series of the same name, this drama gives viewers a peek into the world of privileged teenagers on an elite private school in New York City. The story is written by The O.C.'s Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, and directed by Mark Piznarski who has worked on series like Everwood and Veronica Mars.
Surface's Leighton Meester and Accepted's Blake Lively have taken the lead roles in this drama series. They will play Blair and Serena respectively, rich Manhattan rivals at a private school in New York. The last additions to this new CW drama are Misconceptions Taylor Momsen, The Covenant's Chace Crawford and The Bedford Diaries's Penn Badgley. Their characters are Momsen as Jenny a 14 year-old and shy girl, Nate the good looking boyfriend of Blair, and Dan the secret admirer of Serena.
E-Ring's Kelly Rutherford and The Jury's Florencia Lozano have both been cast as the mothers of lead roles Serena and Blair. Rutherford will play the mother of Serena van der Woodsen (Lively's character), a former ballerina and rock groupie. Meanwhile Lozano was cast as Eleanor Waldorf the mother of Blair Waldorf (Meester's character). World Trade Center's Conner Paolo has been cast as Serena's brother, Eric van der Woodsen, Afterlife's Ed Westwick has been cast as Chuck Bass, and Brothers and Sisters' Matthew Settle has been cast as Jenny and Dan's father, Rufus Humphrey.
Blake is one casting choice I was really thrilled with. I think she's a very good choice for Serena. She's naturally gorgeous (IMO) and she's got that really laid back, I'm-not-really-trying-but-that-makes-you-love-me-even-more, thing about her.
Not exactly how I pictured Blair.. but I think she's growing on me.
I think they just need to give the girl some tan in a can, cause she's whiter than I am, and I'm practically translucent!
I think if she can get down that look that says "I'm smiling, but I'm really planning 50 ways to fuck you up", then she'll have my blessing.
When I first read the book's description of Nate, I thought to myself 'Okay, so he's the type of guy who looks at you, and you drop your skirt right there..'

Sure, she could be Serena's mom.. I'm not complaining.. Although I'm not really sure why she's included in the promo shots.. She doesn't exactly have a big part in the book.
Not how I imagined Chuck. I mean, isn't Chuck the kind of guy that is so underwear model-good looking, that you'd completely disregard the fact that he's an ass, and make out with him, anyway?
This guy looks like he arrived on set for the photo shoot wearing skinnies and a pout.

So, I suppose I'm pretty happy, all in all. I mean, after hearing those rumors about Lindsay Lohan playing Blair, I guess pretty much anyone is an upgrade.. I do, however, have only one real problem:

There were rumors that she would be played by Lizzy Caplan, but she's doing 'The Class', isn't she?
