the ratings won't improve by a wide margin this year and they're just gonna piss off the core audience of Oscars viewers by reducing these categories in order to shoe-horn in useless montages and bad bits.

idc The Power of the Dog needed Jonny Greenwood's score and if he wins, it's kind of shit if people will only get to hear one line of his speech in the televised ceremony. editors are so important to actually making a film but they get reduced to the b-team award. the short film categories could be the place where we find our next great documentarian or animated film director and they get shit this year too! it's dumb!

I'm actually surprised SCORE didn't make the the cut when most people do follow soundtracks (regardless of noms) along with original song especially when if a popular theme happens to get big.

this year has some pretty big names nominated for score too. Hans Zimmer (who hasn't won an Oscar since 94) has played Coachella lol, he tours and sells out arenas! Jonny Greenwood is a rock star and his scores are lauded. Nicholas Britell's work on Succession is beloved, and he's quickly becoming an in demand composer. Germaine Franco is the first woman to score an animated Disney movie and Encanto is such a hit but she wouldn't get her moment in the sun either if she wins.

This is OT but I don’t like it when in Succession they start playing the theme song in the background in the middle of an episode. It just seems weird to me idk.

Meh. I can see why she thinks that it is a "heightened" word to use especially in light of the academy nominating POC. Tbh, as long as the tech people get their award and give their speech to their peers, does it matter if Joe public that does understand their job sees them getting the award on TV?

I still don't agree with her cause she's acting like those categories are always all white (and male), had this changes happened last year the first pair of black makeup/hair stylist winners would been unseen and ignored. In the last few years there has been historic wins in those cut categories so she is being a bit narrow-minded int it.

They won't be giving their speech to their peers because the first 10 rows won't be seated yet.

I absolutely hate Very Important Online speak like this. The word Exclusion has had many uses to many different people and situations. When my airline credit says it’s excludes certain dates is it minimizing poc struggles? Come on now. There’s simply no justification for cutting these categories from the broadcast when you’re still planning on making it 3 hours long. You’re telling me abc executives really think that regulars would rather watch irrelevant Amy Schumer and Wanda Sykes crack awkward jokes and star in cringe skits instead of excited people win the most coveted award in their industry?? Sure they may not be big names but I personally love seeing the “little” people so emotional at winning. And when it comes to score some of those composers are big names in their own right. They deserve their moment broadcast live in full!

See I almost would've wanted to see if the ratings would've been effected had it been cut shorter, but it's gonna 3 hours long!

The ratings are def not getting effected since most people have no idea who half the actors and movies are (which is one of the big problems). Like I think of the 4 acting categories Will and Andrew are the only like big ones that I think most people can say they are familiar-enough with in terms of current relevancy.

I think she's deflecting the fact that it's wrong to treat some categories as inferior, when they're all important. And the score can be essential to a movie, not to mention editing.
I was excited the year when there was no host and thought that it would continue that way. I can't stand the hosts' monologues and think the show would benefit without a host, since it always has a lot of famous presenters anyway.

I will always hate this idea. The Oscars have been around for almost 100 years. They are the most prestigious entertainment award. They don't give out very many at all so each win, even if it's for sound (which by the way is a very important element of film!!!! Put on a movie and hit mute, I dare you!), is entry into one of the most exclusive groups ever and celebrates the art of cinema. Until now, there have only been 3,140 Oscar statuettes won. Every winner deserves their moment in front of their peers.

Films only work because a team carries each story from inception, to the set, to editing bay and out into theatres. Film is a collaborative art and it's inspiring to see gifted people come together and create. Stratifying what parts are more or less important is the worst thing the Academy can do.

But many of the Academy’s rank-and-file members are anything but satisfied. Mitchell Block of the short films and feature animation branch wrote on Facebook, “The Academy’s lack of transparency to its governors, executive committees and members got them into this mess. Top-down leadership is good for Putin but not good for volunteer honorary organizations with a membership. We’re all in this together, but that’s not how the management of our Academy works.”

shut up, tho?

god people in show biz are a fucking mess with no grasp on reality
