Looking at the box office this year, people are only going to the movies to see action or horror.
Besides Free Guy, did another comedy killed it at the Box Office this year? I know it has action too but It was funny

But I'm not sure I'd call it an underperformance. Historical dramas (and really, dramas in general) just don't perform at the box office anymore. I was kind of surprised the studio greenlighted this, because even pre-pandemic this seemed like a box office loser no matter the quality. Which sucks, because these days you can seemingly only get big money from one kind of movie.

Saw V/H/S 94 (Timo Tjahjanto had the best segment, the rest was meh) and Queenpins (which was a movie, the cast was totally wasted on it).
