I'm fucking SHOCKED that Dmitry Muratov hasn't been killed. He must have amazing instincts, beast bodyguards, and a whole fuck ton of amazing intel. I'm gonna fall down an internet hole researching this guy.....

Good!! It's scary how quickly newsrooms are being dismantled all over the world

I’m not sure people fully appreciate this. Hartford Courant newsroom over time:

1990s: ~400 people

2018, when I started: ~85 people

Nov. 2019, when a certain hedge fund first invested: 72 people

Today: 36 people https://t.co/pFDoz7OTFR

and the people who are doing the work to make information available to the public, especially when their lives are in danger, are brave as hell.

Yes, it's so sad when you read journalism books from the 70s/80s and you read about all the money they had to cover news from any place in the world. There were Bureaus in a lot of countries and they had decent wages. Right now, newsrooms are barely holding on, especially those of local newspapers. It's just so depressing

When I still worked in journalism it was so obvious what the golden age was and how far past we were.

I'm so glad they're recognizing journalists. As a Communications professional who dreamed of being a journalist, seeing this beautiful and harsh profession recognized is wonderful.

Good journalists work and fight so hard for the truth, to help people's voice be heard, shine a light on ignored situations, and it's depressing how much harder it's becoming to be a journalist as time goes by.

Journalism is one of the most important professions for a democratic country, for justice to prevail, so it's one with a high risk. Here in Mexico, being a good journalist means risking your life. The same goes for the rest of the world. So I'm really happy that this Nobel prize highlights the amazing, dangerous and important job that journalists do

this one was so exciting to me

I've followed some of Maria Ressa's work especially, and I think that rewarding journalists is so important in the current climate.
