New Charmed showrunner vows to improve show

Thanks for writing this. You make a lot of great points, and you’re right - the queer representation has been super problematic. All I can say is that we hear you, and one of our goals in taking over is to spend these 13 episodes fixing that. Hopefully in ways that surprise you.

13 eps? Why such a low ep season? is it the last one?

It has reached the 4 season limit that TheCW has so it definitely is in more danger of being canceled than it has been in S2/3.

But I think they are shortening a lot of shows outside of their top performers to fit in more shows throughout the year.

To get more buzz. It got a bunch of free publicity.

The first season fit the Charmed lore to an extent, but it went off the rails in season 2 and just kept going until it fell off the side of the universe in 3. It’s got nothing to do with Charmed by now but it didn’t start off that way.

I really am stunned by how bad the writing is for CW shows. You can be a low budget campy network but cheap and campy doesn’t mean you have to hire the worst writers ever? Is it studio meddling, is it people’s reps get ruined if they write for the CW so they can’t risk working there? How are all of their shows so universally BADLY written

CW kind of stopped giving shit about quality after a while. This was like a decade ago tbf

Imo it's the showrunners.

I am almost positive they ask writers if they hate the shows they will write for before they're hired.

I can't imagine that any of the writers can get hired afterwards. All I'd have to do is see The CW on a writer's resume and they'd be an automatic no.

I just remember when UPN and The WB merged and execs thought it would launch a new super network comparable to Fox, NBC, ABC and CBS. But in reality CW ratings have never reached the highest that WB and UPN shows ever reached

They lost so many station carriers when they merged. They are only in like 200 local stations.
